Holden’s Resource & Support (R&S) Program has been developed and refined over the last 40 years to support, challenge and enrich the lives of Holden students and families.

Individual Resource & Support

Weekly R&S with a counselor focuses on self-exploration  through discussion, art, music or movement.  This inner journey can allow us to connect with our vibrancy, joy and passion.  R&S is self-directed and can include: working with creativity; exploring passions; getting emotional support; understanding personal relationships; examining thoughts and beliefs; and creating change through conscious choices.

Counselors also act as advocates for their students in meetings with staff or families, to make sure that students are heard and understood by the adults.

Family R&S

Meetings with a family counselor and the student’s R&S counselor can help in family transitions or crises, or with mediating conflicts about rights and responsibilities within the family.  Longer-term family R&S can focus on family goal-setting and follow-through, improving communication, changing patterns of interaction, or healing family wounds.  Students, parents or the school can request family R&S.

Mediations

Students do not have to like each other or staff, but we do need to get along. From time to time, a mediation facilitated by a director and supported by counselors can be helpful. Any student or staff person can call for a mediation at any time.

Groups

We always have groups available on the schedule. A few examples: Women’s Group; Men’s Group; Art as Self-Expression; Dreamwork; Death & Greiving; Psychology through Film; Sobriety; Relationships.

About Holden R & S Counselors

Our skilled counselors volunteer their time and energy to help students thrive at Holden. They are enrolled in or have graduated from accredited Masters programs in clinical psychology, and are furthering their training under supervision by licensed psychotherapists.
