On May 25th a group of Holden students will be taking a day sail with Holden counselor Alex Perrotti, an experienced sailor, followed by a sunset sail with Holden staff. Many thanks to OCSC Sailing in the Berkeley Marina for offering the school a reduced boat rental rate.

Holden’s Summer Camping Trip

Departure: 3:30pm Thursday 5/17 from the Holden parking lot

Return: 1pm Saturday 5/19 to Holden

Friday will include a half day rafting trip on the American River through Whitewater Excitement. This is a fun and exciting river trip, perfect for first time rafters!

Two nights camping on the river at White Water Excitement’s beautiful private campground. The campground has a great volleyball court, flush toilets, and even showers.

Cost: $250 includes transportation, amazing food, camping, and rafting.

Non-refundable payment for trip must be in to the office by 4/26 to secure a spot.

To celebrate its 43rd year, Holden High School is bringing a writers series to the community. The Meet the Writer series will begin on April 19 with well-known local mystery writer Penny Warner. The evening event will be held at the Orinda Community Church Fellowship Hall from 7 to 9 pm and will include refreshments, a conversation with Penny, sales of her books, and an autographing opportunity.

Are you interested in becoming a writer? Do you love mysteries? Do you wonder how writers ever decide what to write? Where do they get their ideas? And, of course, how do they get their work published? These are all things that Penny will share with her audience. In addition, she will give you a look at some of her creative ideas. Penny Warner has published over 50 books for both adults and children. Her first mystery series, featuring Connor Westphal, a deaf reporter in the California Gold Country, won a Macavity Award for Best First Mystery, and was nominated for an Agatha and an Anthony Award. Her latest is a mystery series featuring event planner, Presley Parker, and is set in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her middle-grade mystery, CODE BUSTERS CLUB: THE SKELETON KEY, was just nominated for an Agatha Best Juvenile Mystery Award.
