Meet Carlo, a student at
Holden High School

Each quarter, we like to feature a Holden High School student. Today, we’re excited to introduce you to Carlo, a student at Holden High School! Read on to discover how joining our small, caring community gave him academic and personal confidence.

What grade are you in?

“I’m a sophomore!”

Why did you choose Holden?

“As soon as I came for a tour of Holden, I knew that I wanted to be here. I liked that Holden is a small community where everyone knows each other. After seeing the way Holden teachers take the time to teach in a way that works for each student, the deal was sealed for me.“

What do you like about Holden?

“I learn differently than most people. I used to struggle turning in assignments on time. Instead of Holden punishing me for it, the teachers gave me a system that helps me keep track of everything I need to get done.

The students here are from all over the Bay Area, so it’s diverse. Everyone is so different, but everyone is also very accepting. People here are open to new ideas and experiences.”

How has Holden helped you?

“I was bullied in one of my previous schools. Being at Holden has really helped me with my self-confidence. I feel free and safe to be 100% me.”

How would you describe Holden?

“Holden is an extremely open and accepting environment. Anyone is welcome. As long as you respect and accept people, you will be respected and accepted.”

What are your plans for your life after high school?

“I’m going to look into getting into a culinary college!”

Favorite subject?

“The ProTools (sound recording) course offered at Holden, because I get to produce my own music!”

Favorite hobby?

“Listening to music: (Rock: AC/DC, 90’s hip-hop), playing guitar: electric + acoustic), and cooking traditional Mexican dishes.”
