“Welcomed. Accepted. Supported.” These are just a few of the words students use to describe the way they feel when they come to Holden.
Who attends Holden?
Holden students are curious, creative, independent, and bright, with significant academic potential. Teenagers from all over the Bay Area (Oakland, Walnut Creek, Antioch, Richmond, and more!) attend Holden.
Our students represent diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
Why do teens (and their families) choose Holden?
Most students choose Holden because their emotional, social, or academic needs have not been met in other schools.
Teenagers are growing emotionally, socially, academically, and creatively and deserve to have staff who care enough to get to know their strengths, interests, and challenges. At Holden, each of these areas are addressed by caring staff who see the whole student.
Other students choose Holden for our alternative structure, small class size, and close teacher student relationships.
Students are awarded high school credit for academic classes on site AND for the learning experiences that they have outside of school. Holden High School recognizes that learning happens in all areas of life, not just in the classroom.
